We invite applications for this international EHRI-seminar, organised by the Elie Wiesel National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Romania and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The seminar provides an overview of methods, sources, and current research trends in Holocaust research in Romania. Included are visits to various archives and memorial sites in Bucharest.

In this latest EHRI Document Blog post, Michal Frankl and Wolfgang Schellenbacher (EHRI) look at the process of bringing together archival material from Austria, Czech Republic and additional material from other countries about Austrian refugees attempting to flee to Czechoslovakia after the Anschluss in 1938.

EHRI call for special Conny Kristel Fellowship

EHRI invites applications for its first Conny Kristel Fellowship. EHRI is offering a fellowship of three weeks at NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam to honour the memory and legacy of Dr. Conny Kristel, former EHRI project director and senior researcher at the NIOD, who sadly passed away on 6 October 2018.

The deadline for applications is 31 December 2018 and the fellowship will have to be completed by 31 August 2019. THIS CALL IS NOW CLOSED.

Call for applications: University Partnership Lecturer in Holocaust Studies, ELTE University, Budapest

The Claims Conference Kagan Fellowship in Advanced Shoah Studies has established a partnership with ELTE University in Budapest, enabling a lecturer to teach at least three Holocaust courses there during the academic year of 2019-2020, under the leadership of Dr. Gabor Sonkoly in the Faculty of Humanities.

The EHRI partner Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum has recently co-organised a seminar entitled  #NeverForget: Teaching about Trauma Experiences on the Historical Sites organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication of Vilnius University and The International Commission for the Evaluation of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania. The seminar was attended by 50 participants (teachers, librarians, museum specialists, students) and was a part of the International project #NeverAgain: Teaching Transmission of Trauma and Remembrance through Experimental Learning supported by the European Commission.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the introduction of fascist antisemitic laws, the CDEC Foundation, in cooperation with the University of Milan, Cittadella degli Archivi, and the Holocaust Memorial Foundation in Milan, presents an exhibition dedicated to the census of the Jews living in Milan in 1938.

PUBLICATION: Holocaust Research and Archives in the Digital Age, edited by Laura Brazzo and Reto Speck. New Issue of the journal "Quest. Issues in Contemporary Jewish History"

A special issue of the journal Quest. Issues in Contemporary Jewish History devoted to the theme "Holocaust Research and Archives in the Digital Age" has recently been published. Guest edited by Reto Speck and Laura Brazzo it features articles by Conny Kristel, Tobias Blanke and Michal Frankl about EHRI's contribution to the digital transformation of Holocaust research and archives, as well as contributions from the wider Holocaust archive and research communities that critically engage with the impact of digital technologies upon the field. The special issue is published as open access and is available via the QUEST website at http://www.quest-cdecjournal.it/.

2019 JDC Archives Fellowship Program

The JDC Archives, which holds the institutional records of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee since its founding in 1914, is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for its 2019 fellowship program. In 2019, 6 fellowships will be awarded to senior scholars, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and independent researchers to conduct research in the JDC Archives, either in New York or in Jerusalem.

POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews is pleased to invite to participate in the international academic conference
"November Hopes. Jews and the Independence of Poland in 1918", which will take place on 29‑30 November 2018 at the POLIN Museum.

The conference will fill in the void in the historical awareness concerning the history of Polish Jews and in the study of their problematic relations - with the administration as well as with non-Jewish residents of reborn Poland.
