Matthew Nicholson, EHRI Publicity and Dissemination

Matthew works in Visitor Services for The Wiener Library for the Study of Holocaust and Genocide in Russell Square, London. He has been part of EHRI for nearly a year and a half and works on the EHRI Newsletter.

I have been working at the Wiener Library since June 2013 as the Library's Visitor Services and have worked with Petra Drenth and Reto Speck on the EHRI newsletter for around the same period.

I graduated with a BA in History from the University of York in 2010 and went on to receive the Elisabeth Pestell Museum Studies Scholarship from Newcastle University, consequently achieving an MA in Museum Studies. I've worked in museums and libraries for 10 years now, from volunteering through to tour guiding, conservation and working in public facing roles.

I love working with history and knowledge and with people who share that purpose, so the work of the Wiener Library and EHRI is really enjoyable. My university dissertation topics focussed primarily on the Second World War and in particular how it is dealt with in museum exhibitions, making my job a perfect fit!

My role in EHRI is to put together the Newsletter and write articles for the EHRI website. It's good as it means I always know what is going on in our partner organiations and it's a great way to promote cooperation between our institutions. It's also a great way to communicate and meet with fellow archive, museum and library colleagues across Europe, who I otherwise would not be in contact with.
