In September French EHRI partner Mémorial de la Shoah opened a new place in Drancy, devoted to history and education, located in front of the Cité de la Muette. At the initiative and with the support of the Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah, the Center aims to present the history of the Drancy internment and transit camp, from where more than 63,000 Jews where deported from France to the extermination camps.

Built on land provided by the city of Drancy, the new memorial is designed by Swiss architect Roger Diener who's style is decidedly sober. The building is simple and transparent and makes no references to the history of genocide since it does not want to compete with the Cité de la Muette. The Mémorial de la Shoah at Drancy will give schools and the general public a better understanding of the history of the camp. A free shuttle bus runs every Sunday between the Mémorial de la Shoah in Paris and Drancy.
