A new tool for researchers is now available on the website of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure: EHRI’s national reports. The national reports are first and foremost a tool in the identification and investigation work of EHRI. Because the field of Holocaust studies relies on a huge variety of archives, one of EHRI’s most important tasks is to create an inventory of Holocaust-related archival institutions and collections in order to share information about them and help provide access to the research community. The 47 reports provide EHRI’s identification work with a structured framework.

Written by a wide range of contributors from within and outside of the EHRI consortium – with Giles Bennett, Dieter Pohl and Veerle Vanden Daelen as the editorial board – the reports merge knowledge from important Holocaust encyclopaedias with new findings of recent publications, feedback from experts, as well as original EHRI research. Each report follows the same general structure. First the Second World War history and more specifically the Holocaust history of the country in question is outlined. Next the archival situation in the country is explained briefly, again both in general and with relation to Holocaust archives. Later on during the project, a third section on EHRI research will be added.

The national reports are a growing resource for EHRI which means that more reports may be added, and that the published reports are subject to updates. Therefore EHRI welcomes its registered users of the Community Hub to comment and annotate.
