Istvan Pal Adam (Austria), junior fellow, Wiener Wiesenthal Institut für Holocaust-Studien, “A Comparison of the Czech and Hungarian Building Managers and their relations with the persecuted Jews during the Holocaust”.

Istvan Pal Adam is a PhD candidate at the University of Bristol, where his work is supervised by Josie McLellan and Tim Cole. His dissertation examines the role of a specific group of everyday professionals in World War II: building managers, superintendents, caretakers, or in German der Hausmeister. In the current project Mr Adam compares the wartime activity of the Hungarian (házmester) and the Czech building managers (domovníci and domovnice), and their relations with the Jewish residents.
