The State Archives - Belgium (Operational Direction 4 – CegeSoma) is recruiting a Scientific Collaborator (m/f/x) for the project European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI).

Job description:

  1. Participate in writing  the editing of deliverables;
  2. Manual data integration of collection descriptions in the research portal (based on personal research and copy-collection descriptions);
  3. To look for, contact, follow-up (substantively and administratively), and guide and support  the national ‘local experts’  who identify collections in a specific country and add collection descriptions;
  4. The support and follow-up of data entry by the members of WP 9 and by the collection holding institutions;
  5. Quality control of the data entry;
  6. Administration and communication WP 9 and administrative support of the work package leader (Kazerne Dossin) and the person responsible for EHRI  in  CegeSoma;
  7. Participate in the implementation of standards and the improvement of user-friendliness of the research infrastructure.

Place of employment:

Square de l’Aviation 29, 1070 Brussels. Please note that travelling abroad will be involved.

Profile:

Required qualification:

Master in history or a master degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences with an emphasis on history  in the curriculum.

Moreover, the candidate must:

  • Be fluent in English (both oral and written);
  • Be familiar with ICT-tools, preferably with regard to database management in the field of archive collection management;
  • Have research experience related to the history of the Holocaust;
  • If French or Dutch is the native language, have a good knowledge of the second language (Dutch or French). If French or Dutch is not the native language: have a minimal passive knowledge of one of the two national languages (Dutch or French).

Knowledge of  digital humanities and research experience is an asset.

You are a strong communicator and good at engaging in a dialogue with persons holding different views.

You are capable to hold meetings in English with several foreign partners.

You are able to work in an organized and result-oriented manner and you respect the objectives and deadlines that are set by the project manager.

A fulltime (38 hours / week) employment contract of limited duration until 30 April 2019.

The candidates who have been selected on the basis of their cv will be invited for an oral test: this will consist of an interview of 30 minutes with the members of the jury during the first two weeks of July 2018. During the interview, the contents of the cv and several aspects of the project will be discussed. To succeed, the candidate must obtain 12 out of 20 points. The result of the selection will remain valid for one year.
