Borbála Klacsmann (Hungary), research assistant, Central European University Budapest, “Reclaiming Jewish Property and Restitutions in Hungary after the Second World War”.
Borbála Klacsmann (Hungary) graduated from Eötvös Loránd University with an MA degree in History and BA degree in Ethnography. Afterwards she studied at the Central European University, where she pursued an MA diploma in the field of comparative history of Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, with a specialization in Jewish Studies.
Between 2007 and 2012 she worked at the Holocaust Memorial Center (Budapest) as an exhibition guide and educator. Since 2011 she has been working as a research assistant and employee of the Central European University. Together with Andrea Pető (Associate Professor at the Department of Gender Studies), she has organized three international conferences.
Since 2012 she is a volunteer of the Anne Frank House, coordinating the exhibition entitled “Anne Frank – A History for Today”, and organizing other projects (“Free2Choose”, “Memory Walk”).
She is also a member of the Hungarian research group of Yad Vashem. She has investigated the micro history of Gödöllő and Monor (settlements in Pest County) and the restitutions and compensations of Hungarian Holocaust survivors. As a result of her research, she created an exhibition about the Holocaust in Gödöllő in 2014.
During her research period as an EHRI fellow at Yad Vashem, she intends to explore sources on restitution and compensation in Hungary, as well as documents connected to Gödöllő.
