New EHRI Resource: Bibliography of Photography and the Holocaust

The study of photography and the Holocaust is a rapidly growing field. Following a group effort by specialists from many countries, EHRI is releasing an online bibliography focusing on the persecution and murder of the Jews from 1933 to 1945 and the photographic record.
Created to serve researchers, students and the general public, the new resource is available in open access. Featuring well over 1,000 entries in multiple languages, it helps to trace paper materials, digital materials and (audio)visual recordings involving photographs. The coverage includes photographs taken during liberation from the persecution and murder; photographs of Holocaust-related former killing sites, deportation sites, camps, ghettos, and relevant buildings;photographs of memorials related to the persecution and murder; and portrait photographs of survivors, rescuers or other involved individuals.
Enabled to a large degree via tags (keywords), users can search by specific photographers, places or themes, such as “Ethics” and “Teaching and Learning.”
As core team member, co-Project Director EHRI and Senior Researcher at NIOD, Karel Berkhoff notes, “this product is a testimony to the importance of transnational cooperation and transparency, two core principles of EHRI.”
