CfP: Teaching Methods of the Holocaust and Genocide

To be held at Millersville University, Millersville, PA, from April 6-8, 2016
General topic of the panel: Teaching Methods of the Holocaust and Genocide.
Due date: November 2, 2015, at 12 noon

Millersville University is seeking one participant (to offer a paper) and a chair to join us on a panel dealing with the pedagogy of teaching about the Holocaust and Genocide.

The current participants and their working topics are as follows:

  • Eric Tuten, Assistant Professor of Middle East and Jewish History at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA, and Panel organizer
    • Topic: Teaching about mass killing (massacre) and genocide through readings and film.
  • Jeffrey H. Bloodworth, Associate Professor and Chairperson, History Program, Gannon University, Erie Pennsylvania
    • Topic: The theoretical issue of simplifying the complex subject of genocides for the sake of teaching undergraduate students. Dr. Bloodworth will explore the general subject of/tension between creating an understandable narrative that simplifies without utterly obscuring historical accuracy and processes.
  • Amy Carney, Assistant Professor of History, School of Humanities & Social Sciences
    Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College, Eric, PA
    • Topic: The Holocaust and “racial science.” Dr. Carney is working with Dr. Bloodworth and another colleague on a seminar series, geared toward teachers in the public education system, dealing with “racial science.” She will focus on the seminar series and how to present it to teachers.

  • Submit to a paper proposal (no more than 300 words)
  • Submit to a one-page CV
